Metropolitan Interdisciplinary Reading Group - MIRG was designed as space for a critical collective in mid-2011. The reading group  is intended for activists, scholars, students, professionals and parents, who reside and/or work in Metropolitan and Urban areas and or who are interested in urban matters of gentrification and displacement; mass incarceration and crime; public policy, health and wellness, structural violence; urban planning and affordable housing; and racial, gender & class discrimination, social welfare, etc. The reading group's name and spirit draws on the idea that by merging diverse perspectives, experiences and professional and personal insights we can all emerged with greater knowledge and agency to effect change.  Through this collaborative space, it is desired that each participating MIRG member's resolve to make a difference will be energized, analytical frameworks will be expanded and social justice strategies will be sharpened. MIRG is beginning its 6th year and we invite you all to join. There is no cost for participation and, where possible, reading materials will be provided free of charge through file-sharing on a Board Collaboarte site. Please also consider joining MIRG's Facebook group site [https://www.facebook.com/groups/451967741487822/] During the year of 2017, MIRG's thematic focus will be urban poverty, race, violence, grief and crime and use mostly ethnographic content.
